Setting up Exchange email for Android 2.2 (Froyo)

Enter email address and pwIf you haven't configure your Android device, the first time you tap on the Mail application you will be presented with the setup screen. If you cannot get to the setup using the mail application, use the settings feature on your phone to configure mail. consult your user manual if you need direction finding the settings application.

In the email configuration settings screen,

Step 1) Enter you UNT email address and password. The UNT email address is in the form of firstname.lastname@unt.edu. If you have a top level alias such as jdoe@unt.edu, or Johnd@unt.edu, do not use that alias. Use the primary SMTP address for your UNT email account (ex. john.doe@unt.edu)

Step 2) Tap "Manual Setup"

Step 3) Choose the "Exchange" account type.

Account settings for Droid 2.2Step 4) Fill in the settings for your account, and tap next. These settings are:

  • Domain\Username = unt\euid0123, dallas\euid0123, or unthsc\euid0123 - select the domain where you normally authenticate for network or e-mail access.
  • Server = LEGACY.UNT.EDU (Exchange 2007)
  • Server = webmail.unt.edu (Exchange 2010)
  • Use secure connection = checked
  • Accept all SSL Certs = checked

Note: After tapping next, you will see the phone start to confirm your settings in Exchange.

  • Email frequency. How often would you like your device to check for email? Push mail will send it directly to your phone the minute an email comes in. Depending on how much mail you recieve, this will affect your battery life. The frequency of "none" means that you will have to manually refresh your email client to see if there is new mail. You do this by just launching the mail application.
  • Amount to sync. Choose how much mail you would like to keep on your phone from 3 days to a month.

Step 6) Name your account and finish. This can be anything you want. You can change this settings in the application settings if you change your mind.
