Lost/Stolen iPhone or ActiveSync mobile device.

If your mobile ActiveSync device is lost or stolen, use the steps below to protect access to the sensitive information on the device. The information below will work for any ActiveSync device that you have configured to connect to your Outlook account using ActiveSync. If you have setup your mobile device to access your email using IMAP or POP and have not setup ActiveSync, the steps outline below will not help you.

WARNING: The procedure outlined below will completely wipe your device. If you do not have a back up copy of your mobile data (applications, datafiles, contacts, etc.) you most likely will not be able to easily recover your data. BACKUP your mobile data according to your manufactures specifications.

Step 1)  Open a web browser, and go to http://webmail.unt.edu. Login using your unt\euid username and password.

This works from either Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Opera (just to name a few) browsers.

Step 2)  Click "Options" to switch to the options menu.

Step 3)  Select "Mobile Devices" from the menu.

In the window that appears on the left you will see information regarding your device, as well as the option to remove the device from the list or the option to wipe all the data from the device.

Step 4)  Click the radio button next to your device (phone), then click the option to (take a deep breath)

"Wipe All Data from Device"

Be Careful!! If you remove the device, the phone will not be wiped - it will only remove your ability to manage that phone. If this happens you will not be able to remotely wipe your phone.

If you have multiple devices, such as an iPhone and iPad that are both listed, make sure you are selecting the correct device.

If it turns out that you have only lost your phone, you will have to restore your phone using what ever backup solution you have for your device. If you have an iPhone, you will need to perform a "restore from backup" using iTunes. If you have not been backing up your device to a computer, you will have a more difficult time restoring your data.

Hopefully you will never have to use this tutorial.
