How to Setup Active Sync on iPhone?

Here are the steps on how to set up your iPhone to receive your UNT Exchange mail.

Students: Connect your iPhone to EagleConnect by following these instructions.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Set the incoming mail server to m.outlook.com instead of outlook.com as given in the instructions link above.

NOTE: You may want to disable the WiFi and Bluetooth connections on your phone before attempting this setup. If you phone is connected to a wifi hotspot, but you are not authenticated to that network, that connection will interfere with your ability to setup your phone. If you are having general problems connecting to your email account, please see our instructions for troubleshooting authentication.

UPDATE (March/2011): If you are running earlier version of the iOS prior to 3.2, you will need to update your iPhone operating system. If you are unable to do so, you will need to enter the address "legacy.unt.edu" as your mail server where instructed below (Step 5).

Step 1)  On your iPhone, tap SETTINGS, then tap MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS.

Step 2)  Tap ADD ACCOUNT, which will bring you to this screen.

1

Step 3)  Tap the Microsoft Exchange listing.

Step 4)  Fill in your email account, followed by your UNT\EUID0001 username login and password, and click NEXT.

Note: The address you fill in must be your primary SMTP address, which is most likely your firstname.lastname@unt.edu address.

UPDATE!!! - There appears to be a little confusion regarding this setting, so I would like to emphasize that the email address MUST be your Exchange address. Firstname.Lastname@unt.edu will work for 99% of people. If you do not enter this accurately, the setup will not succeed. To be abolutely sure, open Outlook or Entourage and look your name up in the address book.

Step 5)

Exchange will attempt to resolve your information and will automatically fill in this screen. If it doesn't, check to make sure you have entered the correct information in the previous window.

If you forgot your password, and it needs to be reset, go to http://ams.unt.edu to reset it, wait 15-30 minutes for syncronization, then try again. If you know your password is correct, then most likey the email address that was entered above is incorrect.

NOTE: In a normal configuration attempt, the server should be automatically populated as AUTODISCOVER.UNT.EDU. In some instances we have seen that this has not been automatically populated and the configuration attempt would halt at this point. To proceed past this point, manually enter either AUTODISCOVER.UNT.EDU or WEBMAIL.UNT.EDU to complete your setup.

(Earlier versions of iOS 3.x-3.1.x, will need to enter LEGACY.UNT.EDU)

Step 6)  Select which parts of your email account you would like to synchronize with your iPhone. If you synchronize you calendar items, they will appear in the iPhone Calendar application.

4

Step 7)  Tap the SYNC button to synchronize your phone.

Be patient, this may take some time to complete.
