How can I use the Outlook client at home?

These instructions will show you how to setup the Outlook 2007 email client from home. If you have problems and need after hours assistance, you may contact the UNT helpdesk at (940)565-2324 for assistance. If you are calling in for assistance from the UNT Health Science Center or the UNT Dallas campus, please contact your appropriate helpdesk for assistance.

Step 1) From the Start menu go to Control Panel, then locate the Mail control panel. After the Mail Setup control panel is open, select Show Profiles?


Click Add to setup a new Outlook profile.

Step 2) Click "Add..." to create a new mail profile.

A mail profile contains all your account information. If you have multiple Exchange accounts, you can setup a profile for each one. If you do so, make sure to select the option to "Prompt for a profile to be used" so that Outlook will give you the opportunity to select which account you are logging into at the time you start Outlook.

Step 3) Configure your email account identity, then click next.

Your Name: First Last or Last, First
E-mail Address: first.last@unt.edu or, @unthsc.edu
Password: ********

Checking settings and logging in.

Step 4) Authenticate (login). This step may or maynot happen at this point. You may be prompted to login when you launch the Outlook client. If you do not see this step, continue on to step 5.

Complete!

Step 5) After you have completed the process you may launch Outlook.

At the point you login to Outlook, you may recieve the login prompt. Follow the instructions on step 4 to login if you are prompted. You should also see Outlook start to cache your mail. The time it takes to complete the cacheing process will depend on the size of your mailbox and the speed of your internet connection. For most accounts, this process takes about 15 minutes.
